The Diocese of Dunedin has been getting more than our fair share of media coverage of recent:

“A troubled and troubling Diocese”

“give up a cup of coffee to save the Bishop”

“The church is in dire straits – we are broke”

We certainly find ourselves in times of great change. We are facing issues that none of our grandparents would have thought possible. We are also facing changes that many of us would rather not face. But this is where we are.

So it is important to say: God is where God has always been. Our relationship with the God of Love has not changed, and God’s love for us will not change. Wherever God may lead us in the future, we will always want to respond in worship. As a Christian people we will continue to value meeting together as committed communities.

There is a lot of change happening at the moment, and it is unlikely to slow down any time soon. Yet I believe God is in all this, and while everything changes, nothing of eternal value will change. Can I please ask you to continue your prayers for the Diocese and for each other. Treat each other with the love of Christ and know that God’s hand has always been in the Creative Chaos.

God of opportunity and change,
praise to you for giving us life at this critical time.
As our horizons extend, keep us loyal to our past;
as our dangers increase, help us to prepare the future;
keep us trusting and hopeful,
ready to receive your Kingdom as it comes.
