My name is David Wright and I have been a member of The Parish of The Wakatipu and Arrowtown resident since 2001 when my wife, Kim, and I settled in New Zealand. Under the guidance of our former vicar, Bishop David Coles, I became a licensed lay minister some six years ago.
I was born in the north of England and attended an Anglican grammar school dating back to the time of Queen Elizabeth I. I then went to complete my studies in biochemistry at universities in England and the US. I left the biochemistry pathway after my doctorate turning to professional golf and this took me all over the world and gave me my greatest asset – meeting and marrying Kim over 30 years ago. After several years of travel, Kim and I eventually found ourselves in Far North Queensland, Australia where I was based at a large golf resort in Port Douglas, and we were part of the very vibrant and active Parish.
I retired from golf in 2001 and we moved across to Arrowtown and have been in Central Otago ever since.
The Parish of The Wakatipu is a wonderfully diverse and vibrant community with its mixture of age ranges, residents, visitors, social challenges etc and I hope to be taking an active role in several aspects its development and growth under the guidance of our vicar Chris Tweddell.
