Service - Sunday 7 June at 3:00pm
Parish of Dunstan will formally hand over keys to Bishop Kelvin
Press Release 30/05/2015
A new chapter in the history of St Michael’s Anglican Church in Clyde will begin next month.
A spiritual retreat centre will be established on the property. “I am delighted that the church of St Michael’s will continue to be used as a holy place within the Diocese of Otago and Southland”, says Bishop Kelvin.
The keys to St Michael’s will formally be handed over on Sunday 7 June at 3:00pm by the Parish of Dunstan to Bishop Kelvin Wright and representatives of a planned new Trust.
The church will not be deconsecrated.
The new Trust will be a partnership between the Bishop and the local community; it will administer a fund to maintain church property and support well-being in the local community through church and cultural activities.
“Naturally, the families of those buried in the columbarium will have ongoing access during the renovation of the church buildings.”
The Retreat has yet to be named and an opening date will be publicised in due course.
Members of the public are welcome to attend the service.
