This Wednesday morning it will be very great pleasure to attend St. Hilda’s and formally commission the new principal, Ms. Jackie Barron. I was on the selection panel which chose Ms Barron from a very strong field of candidates and we have been very blessed indeed to have her come to us as the leader of the school. Ms Barron has been the principal of Woodford House in Havelock North for the past five years, and was formerly Deputy Principal at Gore High School. She has had successful careers in business and in sports administration, and was from 2004- 2009 the manager of the Silver Ferns. Speaking of her aims for the young women for whom she is responsible, she is committed to,

“…developing thoughtful, creative, self confident young women who take responsibility for their own learning: young women who are literate, numerate, can analyse information and ideas; women who can generate ideas of their own and implement them; who can communicate clearly, and work effectively and empathetically with other people.”

The school has done very well under the leadership of Melissa Bell, and I am confident we can look forward to the high standards already achieved being developed even further.
